Beagles Pictures - Description

Beagles in many ways resemble English Foxhounds. They are small, yet they feature a muscular body. The coat is waterproof, and they can swim very well. The tail is carried moderately high, but it should not be inclined over the back. Beagles come in a variety of colors, including combinations of white, tan, red, black or bluish. There are no fixed color patterns, but the abovementioned hues are more preferable.

Dogs are 14-16 inches (36-41 cm) tall, and females are as a rule 13-15 inches tall (31-38 cm). Males weigh 22-25 pounds (10-11 kg), and females weigh 20-23 pounds (9-10 kg). Modern species are considerably larger than their old-time predecessors, which could well fit in a pocket. It should be noted that there are two admissible size categories of Beagles in the USA; the first category presupposes the size not to exceed 13 inches, and the second should not go beyond 15 inches in height.

Beagles are active and curious. Young dogs need a lot of training. They are also fond of solving puzzles as determined by their long established hunting instincts. When walking, you should leash your dog, because of their run-away behavior. Once a dog senses something, it will follow the scent and will not even think about coming back. Moreover, they are diggers. Therefore, tall fencing with foundation with below ground security is a recommendation.

Beagles have a pleading and reverent countenance, which belies their natural vigor and livelihood. Their eyes are brown or hazel, set wide apart, hound-like and mild. Beagles have low-set ears, which, if drawn, can reach the tip of the nose. Beagles never hold their ears erect.
